The Medical Support Assistant (MSA) works within the Community Care service line at the Iowa City VA Medical Center. The MSA performs clerical and administrative support in the coordination, care, and treatment provided to patients.
Ideal candidates will have experiences in civil engineering principles and construction practices related to highways, bridges, buildings, and soils, with the ability to evaluate disaster-damaged facilities and determine eligibility for federal assistance. They will be skilled in analyzing complex technical information, developing sound recommendations, interpreting policy, and communicating effectively with stakeholders.
Ideal candidates will have experience supporting disaster recovery operations and coordinating with federal, state, local, tribal, territorial, nonprofit, and private-sector partners to deliver recovery assistance programs. They should be skilled in analyzing complex program issues, developing recovery plans and guidance, communicating technical information clearly, and working effectively under emergency conditions, including deployments and irregular hours.
This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific individual eligibility requirements in accordance with VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Program Approval, award amount (up to $200,000) and eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after complete review of the EDRP application.
