Job Description
Other Duties/ Responsibilities Ability to use a computer and understand and follow oral and written instructions. Required Work Experience Some experience working in a mail facility is preferred. Required Special Skills/ Knowledge Ability to communicate with supervisors, coworkers, Senate offices, and the public when answering questions and fulfilling service requests. Requires physical strength and agility to safely lift and carry up to 50 pounds. Knowledge of Microsoft products. Ability to learn and navigate handheld accountability devices. Desired Qualifications Prior experience in mail delivery, courier services, logistics, customer service, or a related field. Knowledge of mail handling procedures, package processing, delivery standards, and security requirements. Ability to accurately sort, organize, and distribute mail and packages in a timely manner. Strong attention to detail with the ability to maintain accurate records and tracking information. Ability to operate mail processing, tracking, and computer-based systems. Excellent customer service and communication skills when interacting with customers, coworkers, and stakeholders. Ability to prioritize tasks, manage multiple responsibilities, and meet established deadlines. Knowledge of workplace safety practices and the ability to follow established procedures. Ability to work effectively as part of a team and support daily operational needs. Working Conditions Since this position requires onsite presence in support of the U.S. Senate when in session, this position requires the employee to be available and prepared to work during a lapse in appropriations, in inclement weather, on holidays, and during late night, overnight, and weekend sessions. In the context of government furloughs, this position is considered excepted. This position directly supports essential services of the U.S. Senate. As such, this position requires the employee to be available and prepared to work during a lapse in appropriations, in inclement weather, on holidays, weekends, and during late nights to ensure essential services to the Senate continue without interruption. In the context of government furloughs, this position is considered excepted. Carrying or lifting items of 50 pounds individually or a shared weight of 100 pounds. Work will require being outdoors infrequently and in varying weather conditions (walking to multiple locations on Capitol Hill). Frequent standing, walking, and bending. Operating both twine and plastic strapping machines. Employees are exposed to frequent dust. Requires use of powered and non‐powered pallet jacks. Pushing and pulling heavy hand trucks and mail carts. Using cleaning implements. Employee is required to wear a uniform.
