Required Special Skills/ Knowledge Knowledge of the service area’s policies and procedures, including policies and regulations set by the Senate Rules Committee. Knowledge of the Senate’s financial and inventory management systems. Knowledge of the operation of general office equipment, including personal computers. Ability to enter and maintain accurate computerized records. Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions. Ability to operate a forklift, delivery truck, and/or other vehicles. Ability to assign, inspect, and coordinate work in an efficient manner. Ability to identify contractual obligations. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervisors, co‐workers, and the public. Ability to communicate effectively. Possession of a valid driver’s license may be required. Desired Qualifications Experience overseeing warehouse and distribution operations, including receiving, storage, staging, inventory control, and material movement. Proficiency with inventory management or asset tracking systems and experience maintaining accurate inventory records and reporting. Experience coordinating transportation and delivery operations, including scheduling drivers, routing deliveries, managing service requests, and occasionally assisting with deliveries, which may include driving a box truck or van. Strong organizational and project coordination skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and operational demands in a fast-paced environment. Knowledge of workplace safety practices and warehouse safety standards, including safe material handling and equipment use. Ability to analyze operational workflows and implement improvements that enhance efficiency, service quality, and resource utilization. Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with internal stakeholders, vendors, support staff, management, and Senate offices. Proficiency in Microsoft Office or similar productivity tools, including Excel for tracking and reporting operational data. Working Conditions Since this position requires onsite presence in support of the U.S. Senate when in session, this position requires the employee to be available and prepared to work during a lapse in appropriations, in inclement weather, on holidays, and during late‐night, overnight, and weekend sessions. In the context of government furloughs, this position is considered excepted. This position directly supports essential services of the U.S. Senate. As such, it requires the employee to be available and prepared to work during a lapse in appropriations, in inclement weather, on holidays, weekends, and during late nights to ensure essential services to the Senate continue without interruption. Employees who perform systems upgrades, maintenance, wiring, backups, or support alternate data centers will have schedules that include working nights, weekends, and holidays. Work requires lifting or safely carrying items weighing 20–50 pounds for short durations. Work requires frequent physical effort including walking, bending, crawling, and standing for long durations. Work requires working in confined spaces, including bending and crawling. Work requires operation of powered industrial trucks such as forklifts, pallet jacks, scissor lifts, and similar equipment.
