Job Description

Required Work Experience One to three years of experience which provided familiarity with operation of office equipment and a basic understanding of inventory methods. Required Special Skills/ Knowledge Knowledge of modern inventory control, materials management, and asset management practices. Knowledge of, or ability to learn, procurement rules and regulations pertaining to the Senate’s financial and inventory management systems. Knowledge of office equipment, computers, relevant software and web applications, spreadsheets, and databases. Ability to work on a stock picker elevated above 30 feet above ground level. Ability to enter and keep accurate computerized records. Ability to test and make minor equipment repairs. Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervisor, co-workers, and customers. Physical strength, agility, and dexterity required to perform the work. Ability to learn traffic routes and the location of governmental buildings and installations in and around the Washington, D.C. area in confined spaces. Ability to communicate effectively. This position may require the incumbent to be available for sudden recall in response to emergency events affecting the Senate campus or community, which may include after-hour or weekend work, and to potentially deploy to alternate sites in support of the Senate’s contingency operations. Possession of a valid driver’s license for at least three years and a good driving record. Ability to work on a stock picker elevated above 30 feet above ground level. Pallet jack certification. Desired Qualifications Proficiency in processing inventory requests, ensuring accuracy and efficiency. Knowledge of logistics policies and procedures. Ability to work well under pressure in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple tasks and deadlines. Strong attention to detail, with excellent organizational, written, and verbal communication skills. Strategic thinking and strong interpersonal skills. Experience or familiarity with packaging and shipping standards (USPS, FedEx, UPS), including proper labeling, weighing, and addressing. Experience handling customer or constituent requests with a focus on accuracy, timeliness, and high-quality service. Working Conditions Since this position requires onsite presence in support of the U.S. Senate when in session, this position requires the employee to be available and prepared to work during a lapse in appropriations, in inclement weather, on holidays, and during late night, overnight, and weekend sessions. In the context of government furloughs, this position is considered excepted. This position directly supports essential services of the U.S. Senate. As such, this position requires the employee to be available and prepared to work during a lapse in appropriations, in inclement weather, on holidays, weekends, and during late nights to ensure essential services to the Senate continue without interruption. In the context of government furloughs, this position is considered excepted. The person in this position needs to occasionally move, bend, crawl, and stand for long durations. Frequently moves boxes and equipment weighing less than 50 pounds for various needs. Work exposes the employee to excessive noise. Work requires operation of powered industrial trucks (such as forklifts, pallet jacks, scissor lifts, etc.). Work requires the employee to wear uniforms.
