Job Description
Other Duties/ Responsibilities Serves as Director in his/her absence. Required Work Experience Five to eight years related experience. Required Special Skills/ Knowledge As part of our hiring process, we may conduct a skills assessment to better understand an applicant’s proficiency in key areas relevant to the role. Knowledge of, or ability to learn, current political events and Senate and /or House and parliamentary procedure. Ability to provide accurate responses to media inquiries. Ability to coordinate and facilitate the logistics of media events. Ability to maintain records and prepare summaries of events. Ability to direct, supervise and evaluate gallery staff. Communicate effectively. Desired Qualifications Strong customer service skills with the ability to communicate clearly and professionally with diverse stakeholders. Experience in or understanding of media relations, including working with journalists and news organizations. Background in journalism, communications, or a related field is preferred. Working Conditions Sedentary. May sometimes be required to work long hours. Extended periods of standing may be required. Since this position requires onsite presence in support of the U.S. Senate when in session, this position requires the employee to be available and prepared to work during a lapse, in inclement weather, on holidays, and during late night, overnight, and weekend sessions. In the context of government furloughs, this position is considered excepted. This position directly supports essential services of the U.S. Senate. As such, this position requires the employee be available and prepared to work during a lapse, in inclement weather, on holidays, weekends, and during late nights to ensure essential services to the Senate continue without interruption.
