You will serve as a BOILER PLANT EQUIPMENT MECHANIC in the Public Works Directorate (PWD) Pennsylvania of NAVFAC ENGINEERING CMD MID-ATLANTIC.

This position includes a Selective Placement Factor: Candidates must possess: "Incumbent is required as a minimum to possess a valid fourth-class operator license using the National Association of Power Engineers criteria or its equivalent." This experience must be demonstrated in the resume. Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most trade and labor occupations, you must show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. Qualification requirements emphasis is on quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time. Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the job elements and screen out listed below. This job has a screen-out element which will be used to determine minimum eligibility for this job. Applicants who do not receive a minimum of two points on the screen-out element(s) will be found ineligible. The Screen-out Element for this position is: 1) Understanding of all phases of power boiler operations, including water treatment, fuel systems, steam generation, and pollution control; 2) Understanding of combustion and heat transfer theories, water treatment procedures, and the entire steam distribution system; 3) Understanding of routine maintenance and operational repairs; 4) Understanding of installing, maintaining, and repairing a variety of complex steam and hot water equipment; 5) Understanding of mechanical, electromechanical, and pneumatic principles, along with a working knowledge of electronics; and 6) Understanding of troubleshooting, repairing, and replacing defective components, using specialized test equipment to identify issues.
