Job Summary

You will serve as a Mechanical Engineer in the Temporary Services/Steam Plant Cleanliness Branch (269), Fluid/Mechanical Engineering and Planning Division (260), Office of Chief Engineer (240), Engineering and Planning Department (200), of NORFOLK NAVAL SHIPYARD.

Job Description

In addition to the Basic Requirements for this position, your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-11 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: Experience applying expert knowledge of Mechanical Engineering concepts and principles. Experience applying judgement and mastery of concepts, principles and practices of thermodynamic analysis, flow and pressure loss analysis, heat transfer, machine design, and strengths of materials. Experience providing engineering design services for the design, development, installation, and maintenance of temporary service systems. used to augment or temporarily replace operational ship systems that are undergoing maintenance/repair/modernization. Experience applying technical knowledge of nuclear- powered submarines and aircraft carriers, NAVSEA Guidance Documents S0570-AC-CCm-010/8010 Industrial Ship Safety Manual for Fire Prevention and Response, S9002-AK-CCM-010/6010 Industrial Ship Safety Manual for Submarines, and NAVSEA 0989-064-3000 Cleanliness Requirements for Nuclear Propulsion Plant Maintenance and Construction, and other interface and control requirements for the accomplishment of total ship/system engineering and design work that includes but not limited to temporary service systems, temporary firefighting systems, and recovery actions associated with localized and system wide losses of cleanliness. Experience estimating man-hours from 2-Kilos, drawings, tech manuals and Business Office Work Requests. Experience applying basic principles of industrial management. Experience utilizing material information databases such as HIS System (Haystack), Level I Toolkit, MAT, and APLs.
