Job Summary
You will serve as a SUPERVISORY FIREFIGHTER in the FIRE AND EMERGENCY SERVICES of NAVSUBASE KINGSBAY. This position is a Temporary Promotion not to exceed 3 Years. Management has the right to terminate the promotion before the NTE date.
Job Description
Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-09 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: 1) Providing decisive administrative and technical direction for the Health and Safety programs ensuring all activities align with and achieve the organization's long-range objectives; 2) Supporting all core Fire Department functions including budgets, personnel management, equipment procurement, promotional processes, and operational procedures to build a capable and efficient team; 3) Developing, implementing, and managing the department's comprehensive Health and Safety Program by creating and disseminating safety policies and evaluating compliance with NFPA 1500 and other program objectives; 4) Managing emergency responses to complex marine and shipboard firefighting incidents ensuring all actions are executed safely and in accordance with established protocols; 5) Managing emergency responses to nuclear reactor incidents and applying expert knowledge to ensure public and personnel safety; 6) Managing emergency responses to radiological events, nuclear surety incidents, and ordnance emergencies. Additional qualification information can be found from the following Office of Personnel Management website: https://www.opm.gov/policy-data-oversight/classification-qualifications/general-schedule-qualification-standards/0000/fire-protection-and-prevention-series-0081/ FIREFIGHTER CERTIFICATIONS: This position requires the incumbent to possess the following certifications for this position: DoD Certifications Required: Firefighter I and II, Fire Officer III, Fire Inspector II, Fire Instructor II, HAZMAT Technician, HAZMAT Incident Commander, and NR-EMT. These certifications must have been awarded by DOD, IFSAC or ProBoard to meet the requirement. If you do not possess all of the above certifications and you have not attached copies of your certifications, you will be rated ineligible. PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The incumbent will be required to work under extreme pressure and cope with stressful situations where confusion, panic, injury, or death may occur. Must maintain the ability to carry weight in excess of 100 pounds in addition to wearing protective clothing and equipment weighing in excess of 50 pounds. The work may be subjected to long ours in precarious locations or positions, in addition to climbing ladders and working at various heights. Must successfully pass an annual physical and participate in the Navy firefighting physical fitness program. WORK ENVIRONMENT: Work is performed in an office and an outside environment setting. The position may be exposed to out-of-control HazMat spills or possible explosions. May be exposed to high heat, dehydration, and other effects of heat, smoke inhalation, wear heavy protective clothing, falling materials, or explosions. Incumbent is subject to physical injury and sensory damage from firefighting activities, exposure to HazMat, specialty rescue operations and high noise levels. Must deal with victims of emotional distress at emergency scenes that may be in varying stages of fright, panic, injury, and shock. There may be hazards while operating or riding fire apparatus under adverse conditions. The incumbent may be required to work outside in all types of weather conditions and requires the use of protective clothing or gear, such as, masks, coats, boots, goggles, gloves, and/or shields, and appropriate body substance isolation procedures. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.
