You will serve as a SUPERVISORY FIREFIGHTER of COMMANDER, NAVAL REGION JAPAN.

Job Description

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level GS-11 or pay band in the federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: directing firefighting operations, providing assistance, advice and recommendations concerning fire protection matters. Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. Conditions of Employment continued: You will be required to obtain and maintain a current valid United States driver's license, host nation license and successful completion of an Emergency Vehicle Operators Course. This position is subject to work an uncommon tour, including nights, weekends, and holidays to meet mission requirements. Overtime or night differential pay and/or unusual duty hours may be required. This position requires rotating shift work. You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination and requires an annual physical. This position requires participation in a physical fitness program. You will be required to work a 60-hour work week with eating and sleeping facilities provided in accordance with general firefighting practices. This position requires a work schedule of four 9-hour days and one 24-hour day shift per week. Physical Demands: You must be able to wear protective clothing and equipment, weighing up to 75 pounds, while working in extreme heat and cold under adverse conditions, such as fire and smoke. Ability to maintain alertness, self-control, and emotional stability to direct operations in conditions of stress, confusion, panic, and physical injury and even death that frequently occur at major disasters. Climb ladders and works at various heights. You must pass the Navy firefighters physical examination annually and successfully participate in the ongoing Navy firefighter physical fitness program. Work Environment: During actual firefighting and rescue operations, and occasionally during drills, you will be subjected to extended hours of work as dictated by the situation. You will be exposed to out of control fires, structural collapse, extreme heat and cold, precarious locations, smoke and fumes, exposed to the possibility of burns and other effects of smoke inhalation, heat falling materials, explosions, toxic materials, and bacteriological agents. You will be subject to injury while dealing with frightened fire victims, or high-speed vehicle operations under adverse conditions, e.g., congested areas. You will work outside in all types of weather conditions. You will be required to complete training, obtain, and maintain a government credit card for travel and travel-related purchases.
