Job Description

Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most trade and labor occupations, you must show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. Qualification requirements emphasis is on quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time. Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the job elements and screen out listed below. This job has a screen-out element which will be used to determine minimum eligibility for this job. Applicants who do not receive a minimum of two points on the screen-out element(s) will be found ineligible. The Screen-out Element for this position is: ABILITY TO DO THE WORK OF THE POSITION WITHOUT MORE THAN NORMAL SUPERVISION WG-10: Experience securing the proper alignment for welding and ensuring that work areas are safe for hot work and protecting adjacent items from heat or fire damage and removing flammable materials. Experience using torches to preheat items or structures to be welded and performing various fame heat treating operations such as hard surfacing, stress-relieving and annealing. Experience determining and employing proper welding approaches, sequences, and angles of attack and maintaining the pre-heat and interpass temperatures required. Experience selecting the methods, machines, materials, and when needed the jigs and fixtures commonly used to the assigned work. WG-08: Experience assisting journeyman welders by adjusting equipment controls and positioning work pieces prior to flame cutting or welding operations. Experience planning and laying out welding and any associated cutting and fitting work from specifications such as blueprints, sketches, or work orders. Experience setting up, adjusting, and using welding equipment in the application of various manual, semi-automatic, and automatic processes. Experience employing special techniques such as inserts and blocking methods as necessary in performing complex welds.
