Job Summary
This position is located in the Washington Headquarters Services (WHS), Facilities Services Directorate (FSD), Facilities Operations and Services Division (FOSD), Facilities Services Group (FSG) Alterations Work Group (A WG). The purpose of this position is to serve as research support, project engineering/program management support, development, and evaluation or engineering/life cycle support of a complex nature.
Job Description
In order to qualify for this position, you must meet the requirements described below. Basic Requirements Specialized Experience (for positions at GS-4 or equivalent and above): Examples of qualifying specialized experience include technical work in: drafting, surveying construction estimating, physical science, mathematics, aerospace, architecture, chemicals, electrical or mechanical systems, mining, petroleum, or nuclear systems. Experience in a trade or craft may be credited as specialized experience when the work provided intensive knowledge of engineering principles, techniques, methods, and precedents. Examples are trade positions with substantial developmental, test, or design responsibilities such as: Planner and estimator who analyzed designs for production purposes. Instrument maker or model maker who performed design or development work on devices fabricated. OR Certifications: Engineering technicians may be certified by the National Institute for Certification in Engineering Technologies, an organization sponsored by the National Society of Professional Engineers. Certification by the Institute will be helpful as a measure of the technician's quality of experience. You may qualify at the GS-09 level, if you fulfill the following qualification requirement: You must have one year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-07 grade level in the Federal service (experience may have been gained in the private sector). Specialized experience for this position includes: knowledge of technical engineering methods, principles, requirements, work techniques and practices used to analyze, configure, test and troubleshoot structural; mechanical; electrical; heating, ventilation, and air conditioning; plumbing; chilled water; steam; and wastewater management systems. Develop statements of work, plans, specifications, and cost estimates for work to be accomplished by service contracts. OR Education: Two full years of graduate education or a master's degree meets the requirements for GS-9. One year of full-time graduate education is considered to be the number of credit hours that the school attended has determined to represent 1 year of full-time study. If that information cannot be obtained from the school, 18 semester hours should be considered as satisfying the 1 year of full-time study requirement. Part-time graduate education is creditable in accordance with its relationship to a year of full-time study at the school attended. You may qualify at the GS-11 level, if you fulfill the following qualification requirement: You must have one year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-11 grade level in the Federal service (experience may have been gained in the private sector). Specialized experience for this position includes: knowledge of technical engineering methods, principles, requirements, work techniques and practices used to analyze, configure, test and troubleshoot structural; mechanical; electrical; heating, ventilation, and air conditioning; plumbing; chilled water; steam; and wastewater management Systems. Develop statements of work, plans, specifications, and cost estimates for work to be accomplished by service contracts. Knowledge of how to analyze reimbursable work authorizations and agency-initiated purchase orders. Provide engineering oversight for construction or engineering contracts. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
