Job Summary

As an AST Facility Systems Safety Engineer you will be responsible for managing the electrical safety program. You will establish program requirements, maintain policy documents, support project designs, monitor contractor performance, report safety trends to leadership, and assign responsibilities to team members within the organization. You will participate in facility inspections and program audits, perform data analysis and provide guidance to address critical and complex issues.

In addition to the Basic Education Requirement (in the Education section below), to qualify for this position you must meet the requirements below. Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the particular ability, skill, and knowledge to successfully perform the duties of this position and is typically in or related to this line of work. NASA utilizes OPM-approved qualification and rating requirements specific for Aerospace Technology (AST) positions which recognizes NASA's unique aerospace work. The specific qualifications and minimum education requirements are further described below and within the education section of the job announcement. To qualify for GS-14, you must have one year of directly related specialized experience equivalent to the GS-13 level: Applying safety and quality assurance requirements to include at least two of the following: Occupational Safety and Health (OSHA) regulations, National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) 70 - National Electric Code (NEC), NFPA 70E - Electrical Safety in the Workplace, and NFPA 780 - Lightning Protection Systems; Providing technical guidance and oversight associated with safety and mission assurance engineering disciplines, such as safety, quality, management systems, and risk management; and Identifying, evaluating, and resolving critical and complex issues related to safety and mission assurance requirements such as design, test, and evaluation of new and updated facilities, equipment, or systems.
