Job Summary

About the Position: Serves as the Director of the consolidated museums and related programs of Military History and Heritage. The museums contain large collections of foreign and domestic material of historical value. Independently discharges responsibility for the oversight, operation, management, development, and expansion of the museums. Serves as a senior advisor to the local Commander on matters pertaining to the US Army Museum Enterprise, its programs, and regulations.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Basic Education Requirement Must have a bachelor's degree (or higher degree) in museum work; or in an applicable subject-matter field such as Museum Studies. (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.) OR Have a combination of education and experience which includes courses equivalent to a major, as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education. (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts. OR Have four years of experience that provided knowledge comparable to that normally acquired through the successful completion of the four year course of study as shown in A above. In addition to meeting the basic requirement above applicants must also meet the specialized experience below: Specialized Experience: To qualify for the GS-13 level, applicants must possess at least one full year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-12. Specialized experience is defined as: Experience researching a diverse collection of military historical objects; AND Interpreting a collection of historical military objects to develop narrative or educational material; AND Creating an operational budget for a museum or artifact collection; AND Developing work plans for an educational historical program. This definition of specialized experience is typical work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-12). Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-12). To be referred, applicants must meet applicable time-in-grade and qualification requirements within 30 days of the closing date of the announcement.
