To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement,09/18/2026. Candidates must demonstrate the potential to perform a broad range of building and maintenance trades, including carpentry, plumbing, electrical work, painting, masonry, pest control, asphalt repairs, and related tasks. This includes conducting repair and preventive maintenance of irrigation systems, buildings, structures, facilities, and utilities using hand and power tools. Applicants should show proficiency in at least two of these trades through work, training, or other relevant activities. EXPERIENCE: A specific length of training and experience is not required, but you must show evidence of training or experience of sufficient scope and quality of your ability to do the work of this position. Evidence which demonstrates you possess the knowledge, skills, and ability to perform the duties of this position must be supported by detailed descriptions of such on your resume. Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Qualification Standard Handbook X-118C ( www.opm.gov/qualifications/x-118c). SCREEN-OUT ELEMENT: Your qualifications will first be evaluated against the prescribed screen out element, which usually appears as question 1 in the on-line questionnaire. Those applicants who appear to possess at least the minimal acceptable qualification requirement are considered for further rating; those who do not are rated ineligible and are eliminated. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment. Physical Requirements: This position requires the employee to stand, stoop, bend, kneel, climb, and work in tiring and uncomfortable positions. May operate machinery that causes noise and vibrations, emits carbon monoxide, has moving parts that may cut or harm the body and requires the use of safety protective clothing and devices. This work may be performed over uneven terrain. The work requires prolonged and frequent walking, standing, pushing, lifting, bending, stooping, pulling, and ladder climbing. Must have a full range of upper and lower extremities. Must be able to walk in all types of terrain and soil condition. Occasionally lifts items weighing 50 pounds or more when loading and unloading supplies and equipment. Lifts or moves heavier items with assistance. Stamina, dexterity, and perseverance required in all aspects of the required duties. Working Conditions: Work is performed indoors and outdoors in all types of weather ranging from extreme heat to extreme cold, as well as windy and rainy weather conditions. Is subject to possible physical injury from operating equipment and from handling heavy items. Make repairs or installations from ladders or platforms or where the work is in hard-to-reach locations. At times, will be exposed to dirt, dust, mud, water, noise, and fumes from motor vehicles, working environment, and other equipment. Required to wear personal protective equipment when appropriate. Protective equipment includes personal protection for the eyes, hearing, face, head, back, extremities, protective clothing, respiratory devices and protective shields and barriers. This equipment will be maintained in a sanitary and reliable condition. Selected applicants will be required to complete an online onboarding process. All applicants tentatively selected for VA employment in a testing designated position are subject to urinalysis to screen for illegal drugs use prior to appointment. Applicants who refuse to be tested will be denied employment with VA.
