Job Summary

The position is located in the Architect of the Capitol (AOC), Office of the General Counsel (OGC). The Attorney-Advisor provides complex professional legal services to AOC managers and staff regarding a variety of legal issues including, without limitation, employment and labor law, equal employment opportunity (EEO) law, workplace safety and health law and torts.

You must meet the United States Office of Personnel Management's (OPM) qualification requirements (including specialized experience and/or educational requirements) for the advertised position. You must meet all eligibility and qualifications requirements by the closing date of the job announcement. Specialized Experience is experience that has equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position and is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled. To be creditable, an applicant's one full year (52 weeks) of specialized experience must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary for successful job performance. In addition to meeting the basic education requirement for an Engineer or Architect, you resume must clearly demonstrate the required specialized experience as described below. To qualify at the GS-13 level, your resume must clearly demonstrate that you have one full year (52 weeks) of specialized experience comparable in difficulty and responsibility to at least the GS-12 level in the federal service. Examples of qualifying experience include the following types of tasks performed on a regular and recurring basis: Resolving questions and providing accurate legal advice to both attorneys and non-attorneys on complex legal matters; Analyzing facts and legal concerns presented, determining additional facts needed, and applying appropriate legal sources; and Drafting legal documents and performing legal research. To qualify at the GS-14 level, your resume must clearly demonstrate that you have one full year (52 weeks) of specialized experience comparable in difficulty and responsibility to at least the GS-13 level in the federal service. Examples of qualifying experience include the following types of tasks performed on a regular and recurring basis: Providing guidance on complex legal issues for large organizations or firms pertaining to Employment or Labor Law; Resolving questions and providing accurate legal advice to both attorneys and non-attorneys on complex legal matters; Analyzing facts and legal concerns presented, determining additional facts needed, and applying appropriate legal sources; and Drafting legal documents and performing legal research. To qualify at the GS-15 level, your resume must clearly demonstrate that you have one full year (52 weeks) of specialized experience comparable in difficulty and responsibility to at least the GS-14 level in the federal service. Examples of qualifying experience include the following types of tasks performed on a regular and recurring basis: Providing guidance on complex legal issues for large organizations or firms pertaining to Employment or Labor Law; Providing legal opinions on employment law legislation; Resolving questions and providing accurate legal advice to both attorneys and non-attorneys on complex legal matters; Analyzing facts and legal concerns presented, determining additional facts needed, and applying appropriate legal sources; and Drafting legal documents and performing legal research.
