Job Summary

This position is an Open Title 5 Excepted Service Non-Uniformed Personnel position, open to the Public and to Veterans following the MN National Guard Merit Placement plan. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. GENERAL AND SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE QUALIFICATIONS REQUIREMENTS: Description of Work: The work is to perform professional social work principles and competencies to provide mental health diagnosis, treatment, research, consultation, and preventive programs for individuals, families, groups, and organizations in military communities. Work involves teaching, supervising, and directing clinical social work and related mental health programs. Specialized Experience: GS-12 - must have 24 months of experience in clinical social work assignments. Completion of the Air Force Social Work Internship Program may be substituted for 12 months of the specialized experience requirement. This experience demonstrates particular competencies of knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position. Knowledge of social work theories, principles, techniques, and resources. Must have specialized experience in professional social work that includes interviewing people to establish the nature and extent of their problems, helping them work-out plans for improving the situation, providing assistance and services, referring them to community resources and other organizations as indicated, and assisting them to understand and modify their own patterns of behavior when appropriate. Except as stated above, no other substitution of education for specialized experience is allowed.
