Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). GENERAL AND SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE QUALIFICATIONS REQUIREMENTS: Description of Work: Work involves the maintenance, troubleshooting, repair, overhaul, and modification of fixed and rotary wing aircraft systems, airframes, components, and assemblies, where the work requires substantive knowledge of the airframe and aircraft mechanical, pneudraulic, and/or electrical systems and their interrelationships. Some work situations within this series may require varying levels of electronics knowledge. Minimum Requirements: WG - Experience or training that has provided the candidate with the skill to remove and replace aircraft parts, accessories, and components, and to make adjustments and settings according to established specifications. Must be skilled in the use of hand tools and test equipment. WG -10- Experience or training installing, adjusting, aligning, troubleshooting, and functionally testing the various major and minor mechanical and pneudraulic systems on an aircraft during overhaul or modification. Experience coordinating the work of other mechanics, and scheduling maintenance to ensure completion of critical actions and optimum workflow. Must have the ability to instruct lower graded mechanics, military and other personnel in the disassembly and re-assembly of crash damaged engines, transmissions, gearboxes, hydraulic components, and fuel controls sufficient for the exhibit to be returned to its shipping container. Knowledge of the makeup, operation, and installation of a variety of systems, assemblies, and surfaces is required. Knowledge to determine when new surfaces, assemblies, and systems should be installed, or repaired through replacement of new parts and components. Knowledge of types and extent of adjustments and alignments required. Skill in the removal, replacement and adjustment of various systems assemblies, and surfaces or any of their components and parts. Skill in connecting, meshing and adjusting surfaces, assemblies, and systems with one another. Knowledge and skill to use precision test equipment, technical data, schematics, wiring diagrams, mathematical formulas, common hand tools, jigs, templates, and various gauges. Works under general supervision. Assignments are given in the form of work orders, inspection reports, or verbal instruction. Determines type and extent of repair needed, plans work sequences, selects tools and repair parts, and otherwise carries assignments through to completion, with little or no check during progress. Work is subject to spot check upon completion for acceptability and adherence to instructions and established standards. Guidelines include technical orders and manuals, manufacturers specifications, factory engineering bulletins, and standard operating procedures. May direct the work of one or two lower grade mechanics when assigned to support equipment. Requires moderate physical exertion when climbing, stooping, standing, bending, stretching, and working in tiring and uncomfortable positions. Routinely required to objects weighing up to 20 pounds, occasionally may lift and carry items weighing up to 50 pounds. Works indoors and outdoors in inclement weather on icy, wet, hot, and slippery ramps; aircraft surfaces, work stands, and ladders; and in temperature and humidity extremes. Subject to the dangers from exposure to toxic fumes, dust, dirt, grease, lubricants, points, solvents, high pressure air and fluids; fast actuating aircraft surfaces such as speed brakes, flaps, and landing gear; engine noise, heat blast, and intake suction; rotating propellers; explosive munitions; electrical voltage; cartridge actuating devices; liquid oxygen; fire or explosion of aircraft fuels, etc. Frequent exposure to the possibility of cuts, burns, shock, strains and broken bones. Experience requirements: Resume must have complete dates, work schedule, and/or hours worked per week for both civilian and military employment.
