Job Description

Who May Apply: US Citizens In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Additional information about transcripts is in this document. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes1) leading members of a firefighting crew; 2) assisting in the development of fire prevention programs; 3) Planning and coordinating training with emergency response units. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-08). *NOTE: Because there is no position in the normal line of progression in the organization that is one grade lower than the position being filled, one year of specialized experience at the second lower grade level (GS-08) is creditable for in-service applicants. External applicants must possess one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-09). In addition to meeting the specialized experience requirement above, applicants must also possess the below listed certifications (for their applicable grade) certified through DoD Fire and Emergency Services Certification System, International Fire Service Accreditation Congress (IFSAC), or the Fire Service Professional Qualifications System (PRO-Board) in accordance with DoD 6055.06-M. To qualify, the incumbent must possess the following IFSAC/PROBOARD certifications at time of application: Fire Officer III, Fire Inspector III and/or Fire Inspector (NFPA Standard: 1030 Edition 2024), Fire Instructor II, HAZMAT Incident Commander and within one year of hire date you must obtain Fire Investigator.
