Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. This recruitment provides promotion opportunity to the target grade of the position without further competition when selectee is eligible and recommended by management. Specialized Experience required at the GS-05 level: One year of specialized experience which includes 1) Operating radio communication equipment to dispatch services; and 2) Receiving incoming telephone or alarm systems calls. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-04). OR Education: Four years education above the high school level obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university. (NOTE: Must provide transcripts). OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of education beyond two years (total semester hours minus 60) by 60. Add the two percentages. Specialized Experience required at the GS-06 level: One year of specialized experience which includes 1) Operating electronic computer-based systems for emergency (Police, Fire and/or EMS) dispatching management; 2) Operating multiple equipment/systems (i.e. Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) system, alarm systems, dispatch recording devices, multi-channel radios) during emergency situations; and 3) Disseminating information from incoming callers during emergency situations. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-5). Specialized Experience required at the GS-07 level: One year of specialized experience which includes 1) Receiving and processing 911 calls of incoming fire alarms, emergency, and non-emergency calls for fire, medical, and police assistance; and 2) Dispatching emergency services to the scene of emergencies based on the capacity of the personnel and apparatus being dispatched; and 3) Providing information and initiating directions (emergency medical dispatch (EMD) pre-arrival instructions) to incoming callers (i.e., Cardiopulmonary resuscitation [CPR], the Heimlich maneuver, etc.). This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-06). In addition to the requirements above, this position requires a typing proficiency of at least 40 word per minute (WPM) based on a 5 minute sample with 3 or fewer errors.
