Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Specialized Experience GS-08: One year of specialized experience which includes: 1) Provides oversight of service contracts such as refuse, custodial, washers and dryers, grounds maintenance, etc.; 2) Conducting construction activities such as erection, demolition, assembling, altering, installing or equipping of buildings, structures, roads or appurtenances; and 3) Reporting potential problems in service contracts to supervisor. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-07). OR Education: One and a half years of graduate level education in a field directly related to the work of the position. OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the first year (total semester hours minus 18) by 9. Add the two percentages. Specialized Experience GS-09: One year of specialized experience which includes: 1) Investigating construction, materials, and/or workmanship for adherence to plans/specifications; 2) Reviewing drawings/specifications for construction plans; 3) Reviewing contractor submittals; and 4) Establishing plans for accomplishing contracted work; 5) Manages service contracts such as refuse, hoist and cranes, elevators, etc. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-08). OR Education: 2 full years of graduate education or a Master's degree in a major that is directly related to the work of this position. (Note: You MUST submit a copy of your transcripts.) OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of education beyond two years (total semester hours minus 60) by 60. Add the two percentages. Time in Grade Requirement for GS-08 : Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-07). Time in Grade Requirement for GS-09 : Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-08). This is a developmental position, GS-08, full performance grade GS-09. Management may select at either grade level.
