Job Summary
Serves as a Thermal Protection System engineer with the Structural Engineering Division in the Thermal Design Branch. You will be responsible for performing thermal analysis and system management related to a variety of programs including Orion and Human Landing Systems (HLS). In this position you will work with the respective Program and Directorate personnel to ensure successful development and delivery of Thermal Protection Systems.

In addition to the Basic Education Requirement (in the Education section below), to qualify for this position you must meet the requirements below. Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the particular ability, skill, and knowledge to successfully perform the duties of this position and is typically in or related to this line of work. NASA utilizes OPM-approved qualification and rating requirements specific for Aerospace Technology (AST) positions which recognizes NASA's unique aerospace work. The specific qualifications and minimum education requirements are further described below and within the education section of the job announcement. To qualify for GS-15, you must have one year of directly related specialized experience equivalent to the GS-14 level: Overseeing technical issue investigations, such as developing strategic plans, assigning tasks, and evaluating products in support of thermal protection systems or aerospace programs; Conducting thermal analysis and system management in real-time during missions against established performance criteria; Developing and implementing software scripts to post-process large data sets and generate chemical process tables to support thermal protection systems or aerospace programs.
