Job Summary

The primary purpose of this position is to provide specialty and full range of diagnostic, preventative and therapeutic podiatric services including surgery to patients with diabetes and to provide podiatric consultative service within the Gallup Service Unit. A REAL ID will be required beginning May 7, 2025, in accordance with 6 C.F.R. 37.5 (2021).

Job Description

To qualify for this position, your resume must state sufficient experience and/or education, to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are applying. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part time experience. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. BASIC REQUIREMENT(S): Education: Applicants must have a Doctor of Podiatric Medicine (DPM) degree from a school of podiatric medicine accredited by the American Podiatric Medical Association's Council on Podiatric Medical Education (APMA) at the time the degree was obtained. Licensure: Applicants must have passed the National Board of Podiatric Medical Examiners (NBPME) or the American Podiatric Medical Licensing Examination (APMLE). In addition, a full, current, and unrestricted license to practice podiatric medicine in a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States. Experience: In addition to meeting the above education and licensure requirements, applicants must have one or more full years of experience, equivalent to at least the next lower grade level, in the practice of podiatry in an office, clinic, or hospital. Qualifying experience may include: Diagnosis and treatment of foot, ankle, and lower leg problems; Setting fractures, prescribing physical therapy or drugs, or performing surgery on feet, ankles, or legs; Treatment of Achilles tendinitis, ganglia of the feet, diabetic neuropathy, foot ulcers, gout, rheumatoid arthritis; stress fractures, or bacterial, viral, and fungal infections; and/or Other experience necessary to perform the duties of the position. Selective Placement Factor: Successful completion of a Podiatric Medicine and Surgical Residency: I have successfully completed a Podiatric Medicine and Surgical Residency (PMSR, PM&S-36, PMSR/RRA) or I am currently enrolled in a one-year fellowship program for advanced training in Foot and Ankle Surgery to be completed within 3-6 months. I have performed all levels of surgical procedures in the last 18 months and can send in surgical logs upon request. NOTE: a copy of your certificate of completion or enrollment must be attached. The selected individual is required to obtain and maintain medical staff clinical privileges, including any licensure requirements. If privileges are not obtained or maintained during employment, the employee will be subject to adverse actions, up to and including removal from Federal service. In addition to the Basic Requirements, you must also meet the Minimum Qualifications stated below. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: Performing reconstructive surgery, open fracture reduction and internal fixation and surgical debridement of the foot and ankle, and skill to fabricate, modify, prescribe, fit, and evaluate lower extremity orthotic devices, casts and splints. Expertise in training of students and residents, NPs and PAs in diagnosis, treatment and prevention of disorders and trauma of foot, ankle and lower extremity. Proficiency in developing individualized treatment plans, performing appropriate procedures, providing postoperative care, educating patients on preventive foot health and collaborating with multidisciplinary healthcare teams to achieve optimal patient outcomes. You must meet all qualification requirements within 30 days of the closing date of the announcement.
