Job Description

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Materials Handler ~ without more than normal supervision. I have the ability to perform common Materials Handler duties. I have knowledge of warehousing methods and procedures, shipping and issuing techniques in order to select proper storage locations, stock and palletize items. I am knowledgeable in loading and unloading methods to prevent damage during transport and to expedite unloading. I am skilled in operating forklifts, hand trucks and other material handling equipment. I have the ability to conduct inventories using computers and handheld terminals. I have the ability to read and understand Safety Data Sheets. I work under normal supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed. - Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating. Ability to Do the Work of the Position without More Than Normal Supervision Ability to Interpret Instructions, Specifications, etc. (Other Than Blueprint Reading) Dexterity and Safety Knowledge of Materials Technical Practices (Theoretical, Precise, Artistic) Work Practices (Including Keeping Things Neat, Clean, and in Order) Physical Effort: Performs work on hard surfaces and in work areas that requires some physical exertion such as long periods of standing; walking over rough and uneven surfaces; recurring bending, crouching, stooping, stretching, reaching; or similar activities in uncomfortable positions. May be required to work at a rapid pace for long periods of time. Lifts and carries items that weigh up to 70 pounds; however, assistance is required from other warehousemen, laborers, and equipment operators when moving items over 70 pounds. Employee is regularly assigned to activities which involve stocking and retrieving items over shelves and cabinets. Operates forklifts and motor vehicles (occasionally up to 4 ton). Working Conditions: Works inside and outside subject to heat, cold, damp, drafty. or poorly lighted areas. May work on open docks or storage yards. Work may be dirty, dusty, and greasy. The incumbent is frequently exposed to the possibility of cuts, scrapes, and bruises; falls from ladders; or injury from mechanical conveyor systems or other material handling equipment. The work environment involves moderate risks or discomforts which requires special safety precautions, such as working around moving warehouse equipment, carts or machines. Employees may be required to use protective clothing or gear such as masks, gowns, safety shoes, goggles, hearing protection, and gloves. Incumbent will be required to work day, evening and night shifts on regular workdays, weekends and holidays. When required, drives throughout the installation and/or off post to civilian hospitals within a 100 mile radius.
