Job Description
The position of Health Physicist falls under the 1306 occupational series. To qualify for this position at grade GS-13, you must meet all requirements by 11:59 pm EST on 03/18/2026. Basic Requirements A. Degree: natural science or engineering that included at least 30 semester hours in health physics, engineering, radiological science, chemistry, physics, biology, mathematics, and/or calculus OR B. Combination of education and experience -- courses as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or other education; or certification as a health physicist by the American Board of Health Physics, plus appropriate experience and other education that provided an understanding of sciences applicable to health physics comparable to that described in paragraph A. NOTE: Applicants must submit all relevant transcripts that demonstrate you possess the required education to meet the Basic Qualifications. In addition to meeting the basic requirements, applicants must meet the specialized experience as stated below. Minimum Qualifications: Specialized experience is experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled. The specialized experience must demonstrate one year of full-time work experience , or the equivalent if part-time (for example, an employee working 20 hours per week for a 12-month period should be credited with 6 months of experience.) Experience may have been obtained in either the federal service or its equivalent with state or local government, the private sector, or nongovernmental organizations. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: You must possess one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade, GS-12 or equivalent band level of responsibility in the Federal service, that includes experience: conducting laboratory inspections to ensure compliance with policy and regulations; providing advice and consultation to management on policy and procedures; developing solutions to solve radiation and health physics problems; and ensuring all staff are properly trained as required by policy.
