Who May Apply: US Citizens In order to qualify, you must meet the specialized experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Specialized and Other Experience: One year of specialized experience at the GS-12 or equivalent performing the following duties: Serve as an IT network administrator and service delivery subject matter expert on a general officer level staff. Provide technical and procedural advice to leadership on a wide array of IT issues and solutions. Apply multi-tier level IT knowledge regarding a wide variety of applications, operating systems, protocols, and equipment used in customer organizations and methods and practices for modifying and improving IT systems and networks. Provide advice and assistance to customers, analyze complex networking problems, and provide support in a manner than enhances the customer's ability to carry out critical business activities. Apply knowledge of firewalls, virtual private networks, encryption devices, routing, switching, and detection/protection devices in order to develop, implement, and coordinate activities designed to deliver or restore IT systems, services, and capabilities. Develop and execute security plans for protection of corporate data from unauthorized internal or external access; and implement Defense Information Systems Agency (DISA) Security Technical Implementation Guidelines (STIGs) to newly deployed or existing network equipment to ensure information assurance (IA) compliance. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-12). The specialized experience must include, or be supplemented by, information technology related experience (paid or unpaid experience and/or completion of specific, intensive training, as appropriate) which demonstrates each of the four competencies, as defined: 1. Oral Communication - Expresses information (for example, ideas or facts) to individuals or groups effectively, taking into account the audience and nature of the information (for example, technical, sensitive, controversial); makes clear and convincing oral presentations; listens to others, attends to nonverbal cues, and responds appropriately. 4. Problem Solving - Identifies problems; determines accuracy and relevance of information; uses sound judgment to generate and evaluate alternatives, and to make recommendations.
