Job Description
To qualify for a Transportation Assistant, your resume and supporting documentation must support: A. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience that equipped you with the particular competencies to successfully perform the duties of the position and is directly in or related to this position. For current and former Federal civilian service employees, to qualify for the GS-06 grade level, specialized experience must be at the GS-05 grade level or equivalent under other pay systems in the Federal service, military, or private sector. Creditable specialized experience includes: Application of a wide range of transportation regulations, methods, and practices to perform a wide variety of interrelated or nonstandard transportation support assignments and resolve a wide range of problems to ensure accurate and timely shipment of freight by rail, truck, air, or water. Applying automated transportation systems to successfully process in/outbound material orders. Analyzing information to identify and document deficiencies and/or areas of noncompliance and to make recommendations for actions. B. Education: As a general rule, education is not creditable above GS-5 for most positions covered by this standard; however, graduate education may be credited in those few instances where the graduate education is directly related to the work of the position. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
