Job Summary

This position is located at the Department of War, Washington Headquarters Services, Facilities Services Directorate. As a Supervisory Industrial Hygienist (Program Manager), you will serve as Chief, Occupational Safety and Health Branch, supporting Washington Headquarters Services (WHS), WHS supported organizations, and approximately +60,000 DoW employees throughout the National Capital Region (NCR).

In order to qualify for this position, you must meet the requirements described below. Basic Requirement: A bachelor's or graduate/higher level degree in industrial hygiene, occupational health sciences, occupational and environmental health, toxicology, safety sciences, or related science. OR A bachelor's degree in a branch of engineering, physical science, or life science that included 12 semester hours in chemistry, including organic chemistry, and 18 additional semester hours of courses in any combination of chemistry, physics, engineering, health physics, environmental health, biostatistics, biology, physiology, toxicology, epidemiology, or industrial hygiene. (Note: Courses in the history or teaching of chemistry are not acceptable.) OR A Certification by the Board for Global EHS Credentialing (formerly American Board of Industrial Hygiene) (Note: Must attach a copy of your certification for consideration.) The OPM Qualification Standard for this series can be found in the following links: https://www.opm.gov/policy-data-oversight/classification-qualifications/general-schedule-qualification-standards/0600/industrial-hygiene-series-0690/ https://www.opm.gov/policy-data-oversight/classification-qualifications/general-schedule-qualification-standards/#url=Group-Standards You may qualify at the 14 level, if you fulfill the following Minimum Qualification requirement: I have one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level of GS-13 in the federal service (experience may have been gained in the private sector) which demonstrates the following: Overseeing activities essential to the development, implementation, and administration of all occupational safety and health programs in an organization; Pursuing the most economical and efficient methods to achieve safety, industrial hygiene, construction safety, and compliance objectives; Evaluating overall safety and health management system progress, and providing advice to field activities, private companies, and other employers within an organization; Coordinating studies for mechanical processes, job practices, and means of eliminating hazards in construction, maintenance and operating functions; AND managing the workload of subordinate staff in accordance with established workflow, skill levels and specializations. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. A "certification" letter should be on letterhead of the appropriate military branch of the service and contain (1) the military service dates including the expected discharge or release date; and (2) the character of service. This "certification" must include your rank, dates of active duty service, type of discharge and character of service (i.e. honorable), and date any terminal leave will begin. It must be signed by, or by direction of, the adjutant, personnel officer, or commander of your unit or higher headquarters. Active duty members that fail to provide a valid "certification" of service with their initial application will be found "not eligible". Members may be appointed before the effective date of their military retirement/separation if they are on terminal leave.
