Job Summary

As an Interpreter (American Sign Language) at the GS-1040-12, you will be part of the Workforce Engagement and Accommodation Resources (WEAR) Division, Office for Civil Rights, U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission(EEOC). If selected, you will be responsible for providing interpreting services for employees and visitors who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing in EEOC Headquarters and Field Offices, for the public during interactions with the Agency and for EEOC employees in an employment setting.

Job Description

For the GS-12: You must have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 level in the federal service. Specialized experience may include: Interpreting both consecutively and simultaneously in ASL and English on a variety of topics in a professional setting; Utilizing a broad range of vocabulary to include legal terminology and EEO-specific terminology in both English and ASL; Translating legal, technical, and general material for legal proceedings; and Researching new subjects, developments, and terminology to prepare for various proceedings. Applicants must meet all eligibility requirements within 30 days of the closing date specified in the vacancy announcement. Possession of National Interpreter Certification (NIC)/Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf (RID) credentials are preferred. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
