Job Summary

This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel of the DoD Workforce to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service. About the Position: As a journey level Heavy Mobile Equipment Mechanic, performs the full range of overhaul and repair work on heavy-duty mobile equipment and vehicles powered by internal combustion engines (gasoline; butane, diesel or multi-fuel).

Who May Apply: US Citizens Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. There is no specific length of training or experience required. However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision. Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a Heavy Mobile Equipment Mechanic ~ without more than normal supervision. Ability to perform the common tasks of a Heavy Mobile Equipment Mechanic. Ability to remove, adjust, replace, clean, and install a variety of parts, components, and accessories to include filters, radiators, bearings, springs, shock absorbers, wheel cylinders, starter motors, mufflers, and other items of similar complexity. Ability to perform engine tune-ups and adjust brakes. Ability to assist in the removal, disassembly, repair, and reassembly of engines and transmissions. - Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating. Physical Effort: Work requires heavy physical effort including lifting and carrying parts and equipment weighing up to 50 lbs. routinely and frequently, up to 100 lbs. Works in tiring or uncomfortable positions for long periods requiring for bending, reaching, climbing and crouching. Must have depth and color perception, to obtain a state driver's license and a government motor vehicle operator's permit in order to perform road tests on repaired vehicles. Working Conditions: Work is performed inside and occasionally outside, frequently in cramped and awkward positions; shop area is frequently inadequately heated; work is dirty, greasy and noisy; possibility exists for injury from dropped units and parts, slipping tools, slipping from work position. Inside work is usually performed on concrete floors and ' involves frequent exposure to exhaust fumes. There is exposure to paints, battery acids, cleaning solvents, obnoxious smells and the discomfort of wearing required safety equipment such as ear plugs, safety glasses, welding shield or mask, gloves, respirator, etc. There is the possibility of receiving burns and skin irritations from acid, fluids, and lubricants.
