Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Minimum Qualifications for GS-0809: GS-07: One year of specialized experience which includes 1) reading, interpreting, clarifying or enforcing construction plans and specifications; 2) providing field measurements, computations and first-hand information of site conditions; 3) documenting daily construction activities; OR 4) assisting in the preparation of cost estimates. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-06). OR Education: One full academic year of graduate level education in a field directly related to the work of the position, such as Construction Management, Engineering, Architecture or another closely related field of study. OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours by 18. Add the two percentages. GS-08: One year of specialized experience which includes assisting with the review and interpretation of construction project plans, drawings and specifications. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-07). OR Education: One and a half years of graduate level education in a field directly related to the work of the position, such as Construction Management, Engineering, Architecture or another closely related field of study. OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of qualifying experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours beyond the first year (total semester hours minus 18) by 9. Add the two percentages. GS-09: One year of specialized experience which includes 1) assisting with the review and interpretation of construction project plans, drawings and specifications; 2) identifying and recommending corrections to deficiencies for construction and modification projects; AND 3) developing technical requirements and specifications for construction and modification projects. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-08). OR Education: Master's or equivalent graduate degree or two full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to a degree such as Construction Management, Engineering, Architecture or another closely related field of study. OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours beyond the first year (total graduate semester hours minus 18) by 18. Add the two percentages. GS-10: One year of specialized experience which includes 1) interpreting construction project plans, drawings and specifications; 2) correcting deficiencies for construction and modification projects; AND 3) performing quality control duties during construction projects. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-09). GS-11: One year of specialized experience which includes 1) coordinating and planning construction methods and procedures with contractor personnel; 2) evaluating construction projects for compliance with plans and specification; 3) inspecting construction work sites and work in progress for; AND 4) performing quality control duties on renovation and new construction projects. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-10). Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For the GS-10 and GS-11 positions, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted. Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-06 for GS-07; GS-07 for GS-08; GS-08 for GS-09; GS-09 for GS-10; and GS-10 for GS-11).
