Job Summary

This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation About the Position: The Alaska District is seeking to fill a occupational safety, GS-0018-11 or 12 Full performance GS-12 position. An ideal candidate will have strong experience in Automated Safety and Occupational Health Managment Systems (SOHMS) and occupational safety and would have in depth knowledge of mishaps investigations, safety plans and programs, site inspections, plans reviews and meeting management.

Who May Apply: US Citizens In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Additional information about transcripts is in this document. Specialized Experience GS-11: One year of specialized experience which includes 1) assisting with development of safety or occupational health plans and program elements; 2) applying safety and occupational health standards; and 3) assisting with conducting construction safety and occupational health inspections and surveys. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-9). OR Education: Ph.D or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree or LL.M. [remove LL.M., if unrelated] with a major study in safety or occupational health fields (safety, occupational health, industrial hygiene), or Ph.D or equivalent doctoral degree in other related fields that included or was supplemented by at least 24 semester hours of study from among the following (or closely related) disciplines: safety, occupational health, industrial hygiene, occupational medicine, toxicology, public health, mathematics, physics, chemistry, biological sciences, engineering, and industrial psychology. OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the second year (total graduate semester hours minus 36) by 18. Add the two percentages. Specialized Experience GS-12: One year of specialized experience which includes 1) supporting with managing safety or occupational health plans and program elements; 2) developing and applying safety and occupational health standards; and 3) conducting construction safety and occupational health inspections and surveys. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-11). For the GS-12, there is no education substitution for experience, you must qualify based solely on experience.
