Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Maintenance Mechanic without more than normal supervision. I have the ability to perform common maintenance and repair tasks which includes operating a variety of heavy equipment; utilizing welding techniques to repair new or existing parts to floating, stationary, or mobile machinery equipment; and performing, planning, and/or preparing routine services of equipment and floating plant to ensure compliance for in-progress and/or final work. - Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating. Ability To Do The Work Of The Position Without More Than Normal Supervision Screen Out Ability to Drive Safely (Motor Vehicles) Ability to Interpret Instructions, Specification, etc. (includes blueprint reading) Knowledge of Equipment Assembly, Installation, Repair, etc. Technical Practices (theoretical, precise, artistic) PHYSICAL EFFORT: The work involves standing, walking, stooping, bending, kneeling, climbing, and crawling. Work may be done in awkward and cramped positions. Frequently handles objects weighing from 20 to 50 pounds and, occasionally lifts objects weighing in excess of 50 pounds when setting up work and equipment, and when completing assignments. WORKING CONDITIONS: Work is done indoors and outdoors, sometimes in bad weather. Work involves exposure to fumes, infrared and ultraviolet radiation, heat, cold, flying sparks, glare of torches and heated materials, possibility of eye injuries, electrical shock, burns, cuts, bruises, and sprains. Works on parts or systems which are dirty, oily, or greasy. Subject to drowning when working from boats. Subject to snake bites. Subject to hot, cold and inclement weather when working on a vessel and during field repairs. Subject to the motion of the vessel, and to the possibility of drowning when working on a floating vessel.
