This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel of the DoD Workforce to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service. About the Position: Responsible for performing repair, modification, and maintenance of the Albany Field Office grounds and facilities, Troy Lock & Dam infrastructure and machinery, and Federal Navigation Channel maintenance activities.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a Maintenance Mechanic without more than normal supervision to include: Performing operations, maintenance, and repair activities that requires construction and/or mechanical skills acquired from working on facilities, grounds, and/or equipment. - Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating. Physical Effort: The work requires continual physical effort while performing lock, channel, building, grounds and equipment maintenance activities. The employee uses physical effort carrying/using tools, performing rigging/lifting operations, and handling various components and equipment. Employee is required to do considerable standing, walking, bending, stooping, climbing, stretching, etc. Lifts and carries items weighing up to 50 pounds, but on occasion, may be required to lift and carry items in excess of 50 pounds. Working Conditions: Incumbent works a considerable portion of time out-of-doors in all types of weather (including temperature extremes) and river conditions, and is subject to injury from the use of a variety of tools, as well as, wet working surfaces. There is danger of falling overboard while working aboard vessels and lock walls. Employee is also subject to danger of falling when working from ladders and scaffolds, as well as exposure to dirt, dust, bad smelling fumes, broken bones, scrapes, burns, infections, cuts, bruises and electrical shock. Employee may be required to work around heavy equipment (front-end loader, 40-ton and 80-ton cranes) in all types of weather. Incumbent is exposed to injury due to the possibility of the equipment failure and is subject to noise, vibration, dust, dirt and fumes from the motor and exhaust. Employee is required to wear appropriate PPDs that may be heavy and uncomfortable.
