Job Summary

This Supervisory Social Worker is assigned to the Health Care for Homeless Veterans (HCHV) program at the Washington DC VA Medical Center and stationed at the Community Resource and Referral Center (CRRC). The Supervisory Social Worker provides administrative coordination and oversight of all the Contract Residential Services (CRS) contracts managed by other CRS treatment teams.

Job Description

Applicants pending the completion of educational or certification/licensure requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met. Basic Requirements: Citizenship. Be a citizen of the United States. (Non-citizens may be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with chapter 3, section A, paragraph 3g this part). English Language Proficiency. Candidates must be proficient in spoken and written English to be appointed as authorized by 38 U.S.C. § 7403(f). Education. Have a master's degree in social work from a school of social work fully accredited by the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE). Graduates of schools of social work that are in candidacy status do not meet this requirement until the School of Social Work is fully accredited. A doctoral degree in social work may not be substituted for the master's degree in social work. Verification of the degree can be made by going to http://www.cswe.org/Accreditation to verify that the social work degree meets the accreditation standards for a masters of social work. Licensure. Persons hired or reassigned to social worker positions in the GS-0185 series in VHA must be licensed or certified by a state to independently practice social work at the master's degree level. Grade Determinations: In addition to the basic requirements for employment, the following criteria must be met when determining the grade of candidates. Supervisory Social Worker, GS-12 Education and Experience. One year of experience equivalent to the GS-11 grade level. Experience must demonstrate possession of advanced practice skills in a specialty area or in administration demonstrating progressively more professional competency and judgment. Candidate may have certification or other post-master's degree training from a nationally recognized professional organization or university that includes a defined curriculum/course of study and internship, or equivalent supervised professional experience. Licensure/Certification. Individuals assigned as Supervisory Social Workers must be licensed or certified at the advanced practice level, and must be able to provide supervision for licensure. Demonstrated Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities. In addition to the experience above, the candidate must demonstrate all of the following KSAs: (a) Ability to independently organize work, set priorities, and meet multiple deadlines. (b) Knowledge of supervisory duties which includes clinical supervision, consultation, negotiation with other departments and quality improvement. (c) Ability to ensure provision of clinical social work services. (d) Ability to provide staff training and development. (e) Skill in interpersonal relationships in dealing with employees, team leaders, and managers. Preferred Experience: Certified COR; LICSW/LCSW; Driver's License Experience with homeless populations Licensed or certified by a state to practice social work at the advanced practice, master's degree levels required. This position requires contractual oversight liaison duties to facilities housing and providing services to homeless veterans. Incumbent will be required to maintain a valid driver's license in order to operate a government vehicle Mental Health experience working with patients with acute, chronic and traumatic illness/injuries, and an ability to formulate effective treatment plans preferred. Case management experience providing community resources and referral services to patients with multiple & complex psychosocial/mental health issues or persistent challenges preferred. Experience working as a member of a interdisciplinary team & utilizing a team-based approach preferred.
