English Language Proficiency: Dietitians must be proficient in spoken and written English as required by 38 U.S.C. 7402(d). Education: Supervisory Dieticians must possess a Master's degree from a regionally accredited university or college. Registration/Certification: All applicants must be registered with the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR) the credentialing branch of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics formerly known as the American Dietetic Association (ADA). Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN) or Registered Dietitian (RD) - Must be registered with the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR) the credentialing branch of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics formerly known as the American Dietetic Association (ADA). GS-12 DETERMINATION FOR SUPERVISORY DIETITIAN (CLINICAL NUTRITION) MANAGER: Experience. Completion of one (1) year of experience equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-11). Demonstrated Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities. In addition to the experience above, the candidate must demonstrate the following KSA's: Knowledge of accrediting requirements in clinical nutrition to assess staff compliance and implement performance improvements. Skill as a nutrition expert to provide technical guidance, direction and staff development. Skill in Evidence-Based Nutrition Practice Guidelines to develop, implement and coordinate best practices. Skill in establishing goals and objectives to coordinate activities, evaluate accomplishments and solve problems. Ability to supervise subordinate staff (i.e., plan, organize, delegate, direct, control and review activities and performance). Ability to analyze data in order to recommend allocation of resources??????? Assignments. For all assignments above the full performance level, the higher-level duties must consist of significant scope, complexity (difficulty), and range of variety, and be performed by the incumbent at least 25% of the time. A clinical nutrition manager serves as a supervisory dietitian, clinical nutrition expert, and consultant with primary responsibility for professional management support of clinical nutrition program activities. The clinical nutrition manager integrates clinical functions with other sections of NFS, other services and units within the medical center, hospital and community based clinics, and the local community. The individual assesses, plans, and evaluates the clinical nutrition program to ensure proper coordination between the delivery of clinical nutrition services and the overall delivery of health care. The clinical nutrition manager is responsible for ensuring compliance with internal and external regulatory authorities. References: VA Handbook 5005, Part II, Appendix G20. Physical Requirements: The work is primarily sedentary, although some light physical effort may be required. There may be some walking, standing, bending, carrying of light items including training paperwork or manuals, or small equipment, such as: laptop computers, mobile LCD projectors; or traveling. Work often involves talking for long periods of time and incumbent may be susceptible to eyestrain from working long hours on the computer.
