Job Summary

The Charlie Norwood VA Medical Center is seeking to the fill positions for the Health Technician (Telemetry Monitor ) with Nursing Service. The Health Technician (Telemetry Monitor) works as a member of the Acute Care Team, providing cardiac monitoring under the supervision of the registered nurse. The incumbent exhibits skill and proficiency sufficient to effective EKG monitoring, age appropriate assessment, evaluation and documentation.

Job Description

To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 10/13/2026. Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS-05 grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-06 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-05. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade, as required by the announcement. In this instance, you must provide an additional SF-50 that clearly demonstrates one-year time-in-grade. Note: Time-In-Grade requirements also apply to former Federal employees applying for reinstatement as well as current employees applying for Veterans Employment Opportunities Act of 1998 (VEOA) appointment. You may qualify based on your experience as described below: Health Technician Series, 0640 Individual Occupational Requirements (IOR): Individual Occupational Requirement: Do you meet this Individual Occupational Requirement (IOR)- Positions in this series range widely in type and include support duties to medical or health personnel such as audiologists, speech pathologists, medical officers, and optometrists. Therefore, technician experience is experience that required application of the knowledge, methods, and techniques of the position to be filled. In addition to meeting the IOR above, you must also meet the experience requirement described below: Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-05 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Qualifying specialized experience is defined as provides continuous monitoring of cardiac rate, rhythm, and patterns of conduction at a monitoring station. Measures prints and interprets rhythm, at designated intervals and PRN. Recognizes and reports to appropriate professional care providers and changes in a patient's rhythm that is outside established parameters. Monitors patient's vital signs and response to treatments while undergoing various procedures. Measures EKG strips including the PRI,QRS duration rate using designated length of strip/time frames. Obtains and evaluates rhythm strips within routine established timeframes and as needed when associated with changes in patient rhythm potentially due to abnormalities and arrhythmias. Physical Requirements: The work involves long periods of standing and walking. The incumbent must be able to stand, walk, bend, stoop, and over freely. Positioning and lifting patients requires considerable effort and working in awkward positions. Occasionally, the employee prevents the patient from performing destructive acts against self, others or property. Manual dexterity is mandatory; may be required to lift weights up to 60 pounds utilizing good body mechanics and appropriate equipment.
