Job Summary

The Program Support Assistant provides administrative support to the Pathology & Laboratory Medicine Service which comprises over 90 employees. The incumbent serves as office manager for the Pathology & Laboratory Medicine Service and is responsible for areas pertaining to the planning and coordinating of administrative activities for all programs of a complex service. The employee will provide customer assistance by gathering information, analyzing data, and recommending solutions.

Job Description

To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement. You may qualify based on your experience as described below: Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-05 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of Specialized experience includes: performing clerical/administrative duties in an office environment; answering and directing phone calls; preparing correspondence; maintaining files/records; and using a computer to perform a variety of support tasks. At this grade level, applicants should have good verbal and written communication skills and the ability to perform assignments independently with minimal oversight. NOTE: Experience must be fully documented on your resume and must include job title, duties, month and year start/end dates AND hours worked per week. Proficiency Requirements Clerk-Typist, Office Automation Clerk/ Assistant (any grade): Typing An Administrative Assistant must be able to type 40 words per minute typing speed. Agencies may verify proficiency skills of self-certified applicants by administering the appropriate performance test. Physical Requirements: Work is sometimes sedentary but requires walking, standing and carrying of medium weight items, such as patient records. Manual dexterity is required in operation of a personal computer. Incumbent works extensively in the hospital computer system. Incumbent must have an even temperament and act in a professional manner during work performance.
