Employee will serve as an Industrial Equipment Mechanic located at the Hudson Valley Healthcare System in Montrose, NY. This position may require travel between the Montrose and Castle Point Campuses, w which includes wards and Outpatient Clinics.

Job Description

PHYSICAL EFFORT AND WORK CONDITIONS: Frequently handle objects weighing 45 pounds and occasionally carry objects weighing 45 pounds and over for considerable distances. Objects over 100 pounds should be handled with an assistive device to prevent injury and items weighing less should be handled with an assistive device when possible. Employee is required to push, pull, reach, walk, stand, crawl, kneel, bend, and work in cramped positions over and under machinery of all types for sustained periods of time. Work is usually performed inside areas that are adequately lighted, ventilated, and heated. Floor and deck surfaces are sometimes uneven, oily, and slippery. Employee is frequently exposed to moving objects and sharp edges with the possibility of cuts and bruises, and to noise and vibration from machines. Occasionally climbs and works from ladders and staging's exposing the repairers to the possibility of serious injury from slipping and falling. Dirt, grease, and dampness are frequently encountered. Various protective devices such as hard hats, gloves, full shield glasses, ear plugs or other forms of hearing protection, vest, and safety toe work shoes are used and required to be worn, some of which may cause discomfort and/or irritation. Mechanics must ensure that all activities are completed in a safe and efficient way. SELECTIVE PLACEMENT FACTOR (SCREEN-OUT) - A Selective Placement Factor (SPF) has been identified for this position. Selective Placement Factors (SPF) are a prerequisite to appointment and represent minimum requirements for the position. Applicants who do not meet the SPF are ineligible for further consideration. This requirement will be verified if interviewed.) SCREEN-OUT: Ability to do the work of an Industrial Equipment Mechanic without more than normal supervision. Resume(s) must be clearly supported with details of qualifying experience to receive credit. Qualifying experience includes working within an Industrial/Commercial environment, installing and repairing complex Industrial Equipment; overhauling, repairing and performing preventive maintenance that involves various components (e.g., generators, air compressors, exhaust fans/blowers, portable and stationary industrial production machinery and heavy equipment, etc.); troubleshooting machinery and equipment to determine extent of needed repairs, materials and parts, and estimate the time to complete the repairs; using and maintaining a variety of tools and test equipment common to the trade; performing welding; maintaining various logs (e.g., operational, preventive maintenance, repair, and shop inventory); reading and interpreting blueprints, technical manuals, and shop directives to complete installations, repairs, and maintenance on the equipment and machinery; and using multiple office automation functions to compose letters and reports, to store and retrieve documents and use electronic mail. Your qualifications will first be evaluated against the prescribed screen out element (WG-2 and higher only; screen-outs are not applicable to WG-1). The potential eligibles are rated against the remainder of the job elements. While a specific length of training and experience is not required, your responses to the questionnaire must be supported by detailed descriptions of your experience on your resume. All experience listed on your resume must include the month and year start/end dates. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities.
