Job Summary

The primary purpose of the position is to provide comprehensive telephone and telecommunications support to all VISN 12 facilities and customers, and is part of the VISN 12 Centralized Attendant Center located at the William S. Middleton Memorial Hospital, Madison, WI.

TO QUALIFY FOR THIS POSITION AT THE GS-5 GRADE LEVEL, YOU MUST MEET ONE OF THE FOLLOWING CRITERIA: SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: You must have at least one (1) full year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level (GS-4) in the Federal service that has given you the particular knowledge, skills and abilities required to successfully perform the duties of a Telecommunications Equipment Operator and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled. Specialized experience includes providing customer service, information, and referral services to callers; receiving and directing callers and inquiries to the appropriate area; connecting and routing incoming and outgoing calls using a telecommunications system; maintaining call records and documenting issues; and operating computers and related office equipment. NOTE: Experience must be fully documented on your resume and must include job title, duties, month and year start/end dates AND hours worked per week. A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. ~OR~ SUBSTITUTION OF EDUCATION FOR EXPERIENCE: You must have successfully completed four (4) years above high school in any field which high school graduation or the equivalent is the normal prerequisite. This education must have been obtained at an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university NOTE: Transcripts (unofficial or official) must be submitted with your application materials. Education cannot be credited without documentation. ~OR~ COMBINATION OF EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION: You must have equivalent combination of successfully completed post-high school education (beyond the second year) and specialized experience, as described above, which meet the total qualification requirements for this grade level. This education must have been obtained at an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university.
