Job Summary
This position is located in the Library Service within the VA North Texas Health Care System (VANTHCS) in Dallas, TX. The Library Technician performs an extensive variety of technical support services such as materials acquisition and processing, support of automated systems and equipment and overseeing the Interlibrary Loan Program.
Job Description
To qualify for this position at the GS-6 level, you must meet the following requirement: Specialized Experience: You must have at least one (1) full year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level (GS-5) in the Federal service that has given you the particular knowledge, skills and abilities required to successfully perform the duties of a Library Technician and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled. Specialized experience includes working in a library assisting patrons with a variety of tasks such as finding materials, basic computer/copier troubleshooting, general reference and directions; fulfilling Interlibrary Loan processes; maintaining an Online Library catalog by maintaining records, checking in/out library materials, entering new patrons; and entering purchasing information in order to create purchase orders for library materials. NOTE: Your experience must be fully documented on your resume in order to receive credit. You will be rated on the following Competencies as part of the assessment questionnaire for this position: Customer Service (Clerical/Technical) Information Management Knowledge Management IMPORTANT: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. All experience listed on your resume must include the month and year start/end dates. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Physical Requirements: Manual and visual dexterity and mental alertness are important factors. May be required to move and/or shelve sections (6-7 shelves) or books. Will be required to bend, stoop and reach. May be required to lift up to, but not in excess of 50 pounds. May be required to work at a computer terminal for as much as 85% of the day. Work is performed in an office setting with normal safety procedures.
