Job Description

The Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Job Qualifications System for Trades and Labor Occupations will be used in determining your qualifications. There is no specific length of training or experience required; however, you must be able to demonstrate through experience shown in your resume. Screen-out Element: Ability to do the work of the position without more than normal supervision. This must be verifiable on your application. To qualify for a Materials Handler WG-04, you must have experience in the operation (day to day activity) of a cache or warehouse in order to procure, issue, control, store and judge the physical condition of a wide variety of equipment and supplies. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates. You must meet all qualification requirements by the closing date of the announcement. Physical Effort: Incumbent's work requires standing, stooping, bending, and working in tiring and uncomfortable positions. May be required to work at a rapid pace for long periods of time. During periods of high fire activity, incumbent may be required to work for periods of time up to 21 days without days off. Frequently lifts and carries supplies, equipment, and printed materials that may weigh 40 pounds. Work is generally performed on concrete or a hard surface floor. Working Conditions: Incumbent works in both inside and outside areas. Cache warehousing is done in areas that are hot, cold, dry, wet, drafty, and poorly lighted. The work is dirty, dusty, and greasy. He/she is exposed to the possibility of cuts, scrapes, bruises, and the safety hazards inherent of warehousing.
