The primary purpose of this position is to serve as a first level supervisor providing planning, directing, organizing, and exercising control over equipment, programs and subordinate employees assigned to the Fire and Emergency Services Flight, Fire Alarm Communication Center.

Job Description

Experience requirements are described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards for General Schedule Positions, 2151 Dispatching Series, Clerical and Administrative Support Positions Group Coverage Qualification Standard . SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: I have, or within 120 days of the closing date of this announcement will have, one year of specialized experience at the next lower grade level (GS 07), pay band (NK-02), or equivalent (pay schedule, pay band, etc.). KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas: 1. Thorough knowledge of the Mass State Next Generation (NG)911 dispatching programs. 2. Knowledge of location and availability of emergency apparatus, and equipment needed for the emergency at hand. 3. Ability to plan organizes and direct all the functions of the Emergency Dispatch Center, and task subordinates in order to meet mission requirements. 4. Knowledge of basic computer operations to include MS Word, Excel, Powerpoint, etc. Includes retrieval, and input of data. 5. Ability to maintain good working relations; communicate effectively both orally and in writing. Able to keep a calm and stable demeanor while dealing with emergency situations. 6. Ability to provide supervision and leadership. 7. Acts as POC for maintenance and service of all computer and radio programs affiliated with the Emergency Dispatch Center and Alternate Dispatch Center. PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
