The primary purpose of this position, SPECIAL WEAPONS SYSTEM MECHANIC LEADER, WL-6656-11, is to lead workers to accomplish trades and/or labor work on a full time and continuing basis. Leader is responsible to perform the work assigned by a supervisor and ensure that subordinates completed assigned work consistent with trades and labor standards.

Job Description

In order to qualify, you must meet the quality level of experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards Handbook X-118C. QUALIFICATIONS: Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Qualification Standard Handbook X-118C for the WG-6600 Armament Work Family. Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most blue-collar positions, you must meet any screen-out element listed and show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. Qualification requirements emphasis is on the quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time. The screen out element for this position is Ability To Lead Or Supervise. JOB ELEMENTS: Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas: Knowledge of Equipment Assembly, Installation, Repair etc. Technical Practices (theoretical, precise, artistic) Use of Measuring Instruments Ability To Interpret Instructions, Specification, etc. (includes blueprint reading) Ability To Use and Maintain Tools and Equipment Trouble shooting PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Requires standing, sitting, moderate lifting and handling of explosive materials and tooling using close hand and eye coordination to prevent any inadvertent accidents. Frequently handles, lifts, and carries objects weighing up to 25 pounds, and occasionally lifts and moves heavier items with assistance. WORK ENVIRONMENT: Subject to inclement weather conditions, cuts, bruises, mechanical and electrical equipment. Work primarily inside in well lighted shop area in close proximity of up to 99,133 pounds of class 1 explosives. Danger of cuts, abrasion from tools, electrical shocks, excessive and loud noises, handling live explosives, and ammunition. Observes safety, security, fire prevention, and good housekeeping rules. May be required to work multi-shifts, day, swing, and graveyard. Works with solid propellants and explosives, i.e. cartridges, igniters, initiators, detonators, squibs etc. May require limited TDY and shift work. Required to handle and clean up solid propellant dust and chips to package for disposal. In some instances, may be required to wear respirators and gloves. At all times incumbents must wear appropriate PPE such as cotton outer clothing, disposable gloves, and coveralls, conductive shoes, and safety glasses. Follows hygiene rules such as washing hands often and changing out of coveralls before entering office areas or break room.
