The primary purpose of this position, LEAD ENGINEERING TECHNICIAN, NJ-0802-04, is to serve as a Team Leader responsible to their supervisors or managers for assuring that the work of their assigned team is carried out by performing a range of planning, coordinating, coaching, facilitating, and elated supportive duties and responsibilities.

Experience requirements are described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards for General Schedule Positions, Technical and Medical Support Positions, to include the Individual Occupational Requirements (IOR) for the GS-0802, Engineering Technical Series.. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicants must have at least 1 year (52 weeks) of specialized experience at the next lower broadband NJ-03, equivalent to the next lower grade GS-11 or equivalent in other pay systems. Specialized experience must include having practical knowledge of the methods and techniques of engineering or architecture; and the construction, application, properties, operation, and limitations of engineering systems, processes, structures, machinery, devices, and materials. Examples of qualifying specialized experience include technical work in: drafting, surveying construction estimating, physical science, mathematics, aerospace, architecture, chemicals, electrical or mechanical systems, mining, petroleum, or nuclear systems. Experience in a trade or craft may be credited as specialized experience when the work provided intensive knowledge of engineering principles, techniques, methods, and precedents. Examples are trade positions with substantial developmental, test, or design responsibilities such as: Planner and estimator who analyzed designs for production purposes or instrument maker or model maker who performed design or development work on devices fabricated. NOTE: Due to the use of 120-day rosters, this period of experience may be completed within 120 days of the closing date of this announcement. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas: Knowledge of a wide range of maintenance concepts, principles, and practices pertaining to industrial process equipment; and knowledge of predictive maintenance tools and concepts. Knowledge of required security and safety regulations, practices, and procedures. Skill in providing technical advice in terms of oral and written briefings, reports, and recommendations to senior leadership and maintenance technicians; and the development of interpersonal relationships, maintaining good working relationships and working cooperatively as a member of a team. Skill in analyzing and interpreting engineering drawings, technical manuals, and technical data; and identifying, analyzing complex technical problems, and developing innovative solutions. Ability to plan, organize, and re-prioritize work to meet changing deadlines; and to develop and/or conduct training to ensure proper maintenance of assigned systems/equipment; and communicate well both orally and in writing. Demonstrate ability to assure that the work of an assigned team is carried out by performing a range of coordinating and supportive duties and responsibilities. Skillful in utilizing a variety of coordinating, coaching, facilitating, consensus-building, and planning techniques. Experienced in work methods and knowledge, skills and abilities that act as alternatives to traditional supervision, enabling the team as a whole to deliver improved quality, quantity and timely services and/or work products to their customers. PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Employee may be required to work extended or other than normal duty hours to include evenings and weekends and may be subject to recall. Incumbent may be required to report to work during base exercises, contingencies, or emergency situations and overtime/comp time/credit hours may be required to accomplish assigned duties.
