The primary purpose of this position ENGINEERING TECHNICIAN, NJ-0802-03 is to perform nonprofessional technical work in functions such as research, development, design, evaluation, construction, inspection, production, application, standardization, test, or operation of engineering facilities, structures, systems, processes, equipment, devices or materials.

Experience requirements are described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards for General Schedule Positions, Technical and Medical Support Positions, to include the Individual Occupational Requirements (IOR) for the NH-0802, Electronics Technical Series. Due to the use of 120-day rosters, this period of experience may be completed within 120 days of the closing date of this announcement BASIC REQUIREMENT OR INDIVIDUAL OCCUPATIONAL REQUIREMENT: Examples of qualifying specialized experience include technical work in: drafting, surveying construction estimating, physical science, mathematics, aerospace, architecture, chemicals, electrical or mechanical systems, mining, petroleum, or nuclear systems. Experience in a trade or craft may be credited as specialized experience when the work provided intensive knowledge of engineering principles, techniques, methods, and precedents. Examples are trade positions with substantial developmental, test, or design responsibilities such as: Planner and estimator who analyzed designs for production purposes. Instrument maker or model maker who performed design or development work on devices fabricated. In addition to meeting the basic requirements above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below: SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicants must have, or within 120 days of the closing date of this announcement will have, at least one year of specialized experience which is equivalent to Federal experience at the next lower grade (GS-7), level, pay band (NJ-02), or equivalent (pay schedule, pay band, etc) and is described in detail in my resume. An example of creditable specialized experience includes: drafting, surveying construction estimating, physical science, mathematics, aerospace, architecture, chemicals, electrical or mechanical systems, mining, petroleum, or nuclear systems. Experience in a trade or craft may be credited as specialized experience when the work provided intensive knowledge of engineering principles, techniques, methods, and precedents. Examples are trade positions with substantial developmental, test, or design responsibilities such as: Planner and estimator who analyzed designs for production purposes. Instrument maker or model maker who performed design or development work on devices fabricated. OR EDUCATION: Successfully completed two full years of graduate education or a master's degree with a major study in an appropriate field of engineering, construction, or industrial technology. NOTE: You must submit a copy of your transcripts. OR COMBINATION OF EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION: Successfully completed one full year of graduate education with a major study listed above and specialized experience directly related to the work of the position as outlined above that meets the requirements of the position. NOTE: You must submit a copy of your transcripts. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas: Comprehensive knowledge of engineering technician practices, methods, processes, operations, and techniques. Knowledge of current Computer Aided Design (CAD) technology and practices essential for the accomplishment of engineering technician work. Knowledge of automated data processing concepts, systems capabilities, and economic usage to effectively accomplish assignments. Knowledge of health, safety, and environmental requirements as outlined in applicable standards, regulations, and/or technical orders. General working knowledge of financial control, budget systems and management, and standard contracting regulations, practices, and procedures. PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
