The primary purpose of this position is to to serve as the Maintenance Operations Manager, providing direction, control, remote diagnosis and repair, and monitoring of global emergency maintenance actions for PC and UNIX-based data acquisition subsystems, power subsystems, communications subsystems of seismic, hydro acoustic, infrasonic, satellite, and materials collection.

In order to qualify, you must meet the specialized experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards for General Schedule Positions, Administrative and Management Positions. *** Salary ranges includes local market supplements *** This is a GG-12 position in the Defense Civilian Intelligence Personnel System (DCIPS). The GG-12 duties for the "Professional" work category are at the "Full Performance" work level and are equivalent to those at the GS-12 level. The selectee's salary will be set within the grade equivalent to a GS/GG grade based on the selectee's qualifications in relation to the job. In order to qualify, you must meet the specialized experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards for General Schedule Positions, Administrative and Management Positions. BASIC REQUIREMENT OR INDIVIDUAL OCCUPATIONAL REQUIREME Education: Undergraduate Education: Major study -- any field of study in an accredited college or university. Graduate Education: Major study -- fields related to the position to be filled. OR Specialized Experience (for positions above GS-5): Examples of qualifying specialized experience include: Working as a skilled mechanic or maintenance worker, sales or service engineer, or planner or estimator in a technical group dealing with manufacture, utilization, repair, or operation of equipment. Reviewing and applying technical specifications and requirements. Analyzing equipment and forecasting spare parts requirements. Reading and interpreting engineering change orders, equipment requisitions, shop orders, and work orders. Analyzing contract specifications and examining pertinent equipment to determine if specifications are met. Analyzing or supervising maintenance, repair, or production operations to determine methods of improvement. In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below: EXPERIENCE REQUIRED: Your resume must reflect the quality level of experience which demonstrates the possession of the knowledge, skills, abilities, and competencies necessary for successful job performance required for this position. Examples of creditable experience include: extensive practical knowledge of equipment characteristics, properties, and uses in order to provide systems administrative support. Requires substantial knowledge of geophysics techniques; PC, and UNIX-based subsystems, power subsystems; communications subsystems; and seismic/hydroacoustic/ infrasonic/materials technology. The SysAdmin should possess a strong background in the UNIX OS, preferably with UNIX server administration. As new technologies emerge and impact our systems, the SysAdmin is expected to learn these technologies very quickly and resolve any problems involved in integrating new technologies with our systems. The SysAdmin should possess knowledge of more than one UNIX-based operating system, have experience with sites running more than one UNIX-based operating system, and be familiar with both System V and BSD-based UNIX operating systems. The SysAdmin should possess experience with non-UNIX operating systems (for example, MSDOS, Macintosh OS, or VMS). Note: Creditable experience may include previous military experience, experience gained in the private sector, or experience gained in another government agency. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas: Extensive knowledge of equipment characteristics, properties, and uses in order to provide systems administrative support. Substantial knowledge of geophysics techniques; PC and UNIX-based subsystems, power subsystems; communications subsystems; and sismic/hydroacoustic/infrasonic/materials technology. Strong background in the UNIX OS, preferably with UNIX server administration with more than one UNIX based operating system, have experience with sites running more than one UNIX-based operating system, and be familiar with both System V and BSD-based UNIX operating systems. Possess experience with non-UNIX operating systems (for example, MS-DOS, Macintosh OS, or VMS). Experience with internet working UNIX and other operating systems (MS-DOS, Macintosh OS, VMS). Possess experience configuring network file systems (for example, NFS, RFS, or AFS). Experience with network file synchronization schemes (for example, driest and track). Experience configuring auto-mounters and high-speed networking (for example, FDDI, ATM, or SONET). Experience with complex TCP/IP networks (networks that contain routers) and possess experience with highly complex TCP/IP networks (networks that contain multiple routers and multiple media). Possess experience configuring and maintaining routers with ability to write scripts in some administrative language (Tk, Perl, a shell). Ability to solve problems quickly and completely with ability to identify tasks which require automation and automate them. Experience with network security (for example, building firewalls, deploying authentication systems, or applying cryptography to network applications); experience with classified computing; experience with multi-level classified environments and experience with host security (for examples, passwords, uids/gids, file permissions, file system integrity, use of security packages). PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.
