Job Description
Required Degree: Must possess a master's degree in social work or psychology; or in a related behavioral health field (marriage and family therapy, counseling) from an accredited program. Required Certification: Certified substance abuse counselor (Alcohol and Drug Counselor II, International Certification & Reciprocity Consortium substance abuse counselor certification, or state equivalent) required. Must have practical knowledge of the concepts, principles, procedures, and practices relating to substance misuse and substance use disorders within an active-duty population and evidence-based counseling techniques. Must have ability to facilitate prevention and intervention for substance use disorders to assist clients in the recovery process. Skill and ability to review and analyze client's biopsychosocial history to assist in the development of full-length treatment plans. Must be able to properly document all clinical contacts. Knowledge of substance misuse use and its impact on the social fabric of families', military organization and communities. This should include intermediate knowledge of substance use disorders, and other mental health disorders, and appropriate treatment interventions that demonstrate the possession of knowledge and skill in diagnosing substance related disorders and other mental health disorders IA W the DSM 5; knowledge of ASAM levels of care and ability to provide substance misuse treatment in each level. Ability and skill to prepare accurate written case documentation involving multiple treatment goals. This position is designated as a Position of Trust, and the incumbent must be suitable for employment and eligible for a background check. NOTE: This position is identified as a Test Designated Position (TDP). The incumbent is subject to random drug testing because duties must be performed with a high level of productivity, reliability and judgment to prevent adversely affecting personnel safety, and causing risk/damage to government property, and/or significant adverse impact to day-to-day operations.
