Job Description
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: A Bachelor¿s degree in a related personal financial management discipline and three years¿ experience that demonstrates knowledge of and skill to: serve as the responsible point of contact for oversight, development and administration of a personal financial management program to include management of program services: providing education and training, information and referral, and counseling on basic consumer skills and how to prudently manage finances with primary focus on prevention of financial difficulties and mismanagement through education; or an appropriate combination of education and experience that demonstrates possession of knowledge and skill equivalent to that gained above. Within two years of hire, obtain and maintain a nationally recognized financial counselor certification in accordance with policy. Current financial counselor certification, such as Accredited Financial Counselor (AFC), is preferred. Knowledge of available consumer and community resources, organizations and materials to assist clients with financial problems. Knowledge of personal budget and financial management and accounting principles, procedures, and techniques. Skill in interpreting regulations and other written instructions on personal financial management and consumer education. Ability to perform personal financial analysis. Ability to interview personnel to obtain information needed to develop a personal budget. Knowledge of the theories and principles of consumer studies as well as financial counseling and techniques. Ability to work with creditors in negotiating acceptable repayment plans. Skill in providing direct services to individuals and families, including work with individuals in groups, based on a strong background in social service. Expertise in oral and written communication.
