Job Description

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYEMENT: This position has been identified as having regular contact with children under the age of 18. In accordance with Section 231 of the Crime Control Act of 1990 (Public Law 101-647 codified at 34 U.S.C. § 20351) and DoD Instruction 1402.05, favorably adjudicated background checks are required. Position is subject to immunization requirements as a condition of employment for working with children and youth. Employee is required to obtain appropriate immunization against communicable diseases in accordance with recommendations from the Advisory committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP), which includes the influenza vaccine. Must complete all DoD and Service training requirements within the specified time including orientation, initial, and annual ongoing training requirements, and any required certifications. Must maintain current CPR, First Aid, and Food Handlers certifications. Must be 18 years of age and possess a high school diploma or equivalent. Must be able to follow verbal and written instructions and communicate effectively orally and in writing. REQUIRED EXPERIENCE: Minimum of 3 years experience working in group programs with children/youth as well as demonstrated knowledge in theories and principals of child/youth development. Skill to supervise employees and serve as a leader in the accomplishment of work. REQUIRED EDUCATION: (1) A Bachelor¿s degree in child or youth development, youth recreation, physical education, elementary education, secondary education, psychology, social work, or other degree appropriate to the position from an accredited college. OR (2) A combination of education and experience (e.g. courses equivalent to a major in a field (24 higher level semester hours) appropriate to the position (see above) plus appropriate experience or additional course work that provided knowledge comparable to that normally acquired through the successful completion of the 4-year course of study described above. OTHER REQUIREMENTS: Satisfactorily complete all background checks in accordance with DoD and Marine Corps policy for employees who provide child care services. Must pass a pre-employment physical and annual physical, thereafter, provide evidence of immunization and be free from communicable disease. Must complete all DoD training requirements within the specified time including orientation, initial, and annual ongoing training requirements, and required certifications, if any. Must maintain current food handlers, CPR and First Aid certifications. May be required to obtain a government driver¿s license. Ability to communicate effectively in English, both orally and in writing, and possess strong interpersonal communication skills. Position is subject to both pre-employment and random drug testing as a condition of employment. A positive drug test, or failure to submit for testing, may become the basis for removal from this position.
