Job Description

In order to qualify, you must meet the specialized experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards for General Schedule Positions, Clerical and Administrative Support Positions. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicants must have at least one (1) year of specialized experience at the next lower grade GS-04, or equivalent in other pay systems. Examples of specialized experience includes knowledge of child development center programs, procedures, and regulations pertaining to the child care operation to perform or explain a range of procedures and requirements in support of the child care center operation. Knowledge of various office automation software programs, tools, and techniques to support office operations and produce a variety of documents such as letters, reports, and spreadsheets. A fully qualified typist is required. OR EDUCATION: 4 years above High School - This education must have been obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university. One year of full-time academic study is defined as 30 semester hours, 45 quarter hours, or the equivalent in a college or university, or at least 20 hours of classroom instruction per week for approximately 36 weeks in a business, secretarial, or technical school. OR COMBINATION OF EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION: ???????For GS-5 level positions only education in excess of the first 60 semester hours (i.e., beyond the second year) is creditable toward meeting the specialized experience requirement. One full academic year of study (30 semester hours) beyond the second year is equivalent to 6 months of specialized experience. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas: Knowledge of child development center programs, procedures, and regulations pertaining to the child care operation to perform or exlain a range of procedures and requirements in support of the child care center operation. Knowledge of money handling techniques and procedures. Knowledge of the processes used in the ordering and distribution of supplies. Knowledge of filing systems and procedures and the subject matter content of the materials covering the activities of the child development center. Knowledge of various office automation software programs, tools, and techniques to support office operations and produce a variety of documents such as letters, reports, and spreadsheets. A fully qualified typist is required. Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing using tact and courtesy. PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
